Growing up, Charles and Ray Eames both possessed a love and talent for art, design, architecture, style, and function. When Charles married Ray in 1941, their respected devotion and exceptional talent would fully flourish and ultimately result in establishing them as a truly great husband-and-wife team. Their unparalleled synergy produced pioneering works of architecture and modern design for Herman Miller. Some of their seminal modern furniture designs such as The Eames® Aluminum Chairs, The Eames® Desk Unit and The Eames® Soft Pad Executive Chair all blend a unique timeless sleek elegance with simple practicality and continue to be manufactured to their strict design specifications by Herman Miller.

The combination of Charles Eames’s diligence in problem solving and asking the same questions with each project they undertake: Does it interest and intrigue us? Can we make it better? Will we have “serious fun” doing it? exemplified the commitment and conscientiousness that went into every project and design. As a result of this, many of their projects evolved over time, not overnight. The distinctive modern and sophisticated appearance coupled with their meticulous attention to detail and ardent devotion to their projects has paid off in numerous accolades and acknowledgements. In 1979, Charles and Ray Eames received the Queen's Gold Medal for Architecture, 1979 and in 1985 they were named "Most Influential Designer of the 20th Century," by WORLDESIGN.
